just looked in gitweb and it appears as though REST support already exists in v1, though my flukso dosen't have the capability.
Is correct procedure to compile and build the new version ourselves? Is there an opkg repository for the latest builds?

This feature was indeed implemented at the end of the v1 development. The problem is that the sensor board requires updating as well to make proper use of the REST itf. Contrary to the v2, the v1 sensor board cannot be flashed from the main board.
